World Wide Web + Wild Wild West
Our startup parody world & our new spaghetti western modifier card!
March 12, 2026 by Hattie Hayes
Hi! We’re not home right now. We’re at GDC, the Festival of Gaming, in San Francisco, California. Maybe you remember us mentioning it in a previous blog post!
We ARE traveling, and yet, in the last week, we’ve launched a new playable world and a brand-new modifier! You can tell we are tired of the springtime fake-outs on the east coast because both new launches are VERY CALIFORNIA-FLAVORED. Here in NYC, it was 70 degrees on Monday, and snowed on Thursday. WHY.
Okay, here’s how we’re distracting ourselves:
We hope you enjoy these new ways to play! It is time for us to give you all the thrilling details! Go ahead and listen to the Phantom Planet song "California" while you read.
Love startups? Fear startups? Play Burn Rate.
Burn Rate, our latest playable world, is a parody that lovingly skewers startup culture. Step into Nimbus, which was previously a schoolbus repair shop, and is now a cramped co-working space. Drink all the coffee you want, but watch out for Rollerblade Guy (he's definitely "disrupting," we just don't know what).
Pitch your company, hire employees, or bankroll someone else's dream. And then apply some modifier cards to do it all again, but different. Exacting vengeance on the CEO who betrayed your co-founder? Hotdesking with an alien symbiote? Rollerblade Guy becomes RollerBladeRunner Guy via cyberpunk body modification?
This is our love letter, sent first-class from Brooklyn to San Francisco (and hey, if you want Hidden Door realism, add in the Brooklyn modifier!).
If you’ve ever shared a co-working space that had three types of coffeemaker, a "water buffet," and kombucha on tap, but no actual chairs, just beanbags and balance balls…this one’s for you. 🚀 💕 📈 Explore Nimbus, make your dreams come true, and meet your robot boss, Nim, in this wacky capitalist fever dream.
Y’all like spaghetti westerns?
Howdy! Are y'all ready to hit the dusty trail? With our newest modifier card, Spaghetti Western, you can add western tropes to any story. You earn it by encountering or discussing horses in any of our playable worlds.
🐴Maybe you're exploring the world of Pride & Prejudice, and you beg Mr. Darcy to introduce you to his horse.
🐴Or while at the bar with your hot celebrity boyfriend and your goofy friends in Big Fan, you start horsing around (seriously, that works).
Get creative! Get weird! Get the Spaghetti Western card, and add it to your deck!
When you use the Spaghetti Western modifier card, you add the genre's classic tropes to your stories. For example, play this modifier card in Saturn's Children and become an outlaw in the final frontier (oh, this modifier card is also for Firefly fans). Have a quick-draw contest with Dracula—maybe bring a squirt gun full of holy water, just to be safe. Visit the Land of Oz and defeat the Wicked Witch of the Wild West.
You can remix your stories even more by stacking and combining modifier cards, too. What could happen if you play multiple modifier cards—like Spaghetti Western and Saturday Morning Cartoons—in The Tavern Door? Maybe you'll become a bandit on the run, forced to duel a spaghetti-slinging dragon in a saloon before you can skip town. Or you'll look for treasure hidden in a cactus with your two best friends, a sentient tumbleweed and a dancing horse.
Reinvent and reimagine what a western can look like. Make bold choices and create the wildest west you can imagine.
**P.S. **Y'all asked for more choices in character creation, and we heard you. We're adding a lot of new faces, hairstyles and outfits into the game, starting with some good, bad, and ugly western options. Let us know what you think!
